Abstract

Muhammad (sm) is our ideal model (Ushwae Hasanah). As a true follower of Allah and His Messenger, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1876-1960) was an Islamic scholar, leader, philosopher, and great religious teacher in Turkey. Said Nursi, as a well-known scholar in the modern age, lived through an unstable period, witnessing the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after two world wars and the challenges imposed by European modernity on traditional Muslim societies and Islam. Nursi chose a unique theological method by renewing faith in people through Risale-i Nur. In this paper, I would like to present a critical evaluation of Nursi's writings about Allah and his contributions to the Islamic understanding of tawhid as the central doctrine of Islam. The author believes that the concepts of 'faith-based education' and 'faith-based integration' are very significant for the Muslim world. This paper is a conceptual study mainly based on Nursi's magnum opus, 'Risale-i Nur', as well as books and studies on him. Nursi's concern with knowledge based on belief in Allah and knowledge produced from belief in Him is very admirable. This interrelationship between knowledge, love, and belief forms the basis of Nursi's view of education. For this reason, Said Nursi was given the famous title 'Bediuzzaman' by the people.
