Abstract

Islamic Studies is a terminology of academic subject. It is called by different names in the classification of different stages of the educational institutions. Once Islamic studies or religious studies was termed as Deeniyat. With the passage of time, it has been named as the religious studies, Islamic studies. At present, it is attempted to name it as ethical studies in the education policy (The ethical education has already been introduced in primary level instead of the Islamic studies or religious studies. Though it is termed in different names, Islamic studies is that subject by which we know Towhid (Monotheism), Risalat (Continuation of Prophets), Hereafter, the commands of Allah, different rules of performing the prayers to Allah. The Islamic studies or religious studies is implemented through the syllabuses formulated for different classes. The themeof this article is the commencement and development of Islamic studies in the educational institutions of Bangladesh and to make recommendations to the education commission formed with a view to reforming and modernizing education.
